Amidst daily noise, confusion and endless streams of bad news, truly important things come to us as whispers. Here at Whisperia, I focus on those whispers.

I’ve enjoyed painting, sketching and writing since childhood. Back then, I began sketching with pencil, then experimented with India ink pastels and paint. It quickly became clear that my best work lay in depicting nature: landscapes, flora & fauna, and animals of all kinds. As for writing, I struggled to find my voice. But, that struggle was beneficial because it developed my “inner ear,” a kind of filter that enables me to discern what I need to express. I also call this my “I-filter.”

This “I-filter” is a tool through which I distill the essence of the truth I need to express. This is not what others may want to hear. Nor is it what I might suppose others might want me to say. Moreover, it’s not even what I think I should express. It is the heart of the matter. This is especially important when writing of dreams, visions or feelings I may not even understand on a conscious level. There is a strong pressure to interpret such things. After all, if one dreams or “sees,” shouldn’t one know its meaning or significance? The answer to this question is an emphatic, “No!” The “I-filter” enables me to create - visually or in language - the essence of what needs expression, and then, to leave it there.

The relationships and connections between spirituality, truth, nature, music, poetry, color, emotion and memory are intriguing. I focus on rendering the messages hidden behind and within words and images, in other words, the whispers.

I may become aware of these whispers in various ways. A reverie, a vision, the beauty of nature, a prayer, a song, a dream, contemplation, meditation, and interactions with others are just a few. Whether writing, painting or sketching, I particularly enjoy portraying Nature’s innumerable glories and the messages contained therein. I often start with an idea and a plan, but then stand aside while intuition refines, clarifies, or even completely changes my focus or direction. So, for me, each written piece, each painting, every sketch is an adventure!

I’ll be sharing content weekly. There is no monetary cost. My hope is that anyone may avail themselves of the content, comment, and freely share if they feel so led.

Through this Whisperia Substack I hope to share my thoughts and impressions, which are overwhelmingly filled with hope and even mystery. Thoughts, words and images contain energy. Thoughts, words and images can sustain the spirit. During these times, when so many are filled with turmoil, fear and confusion, perhaps these whispered messages will provide some sustenance.
